Week of June 19 – 23

Morning Session 9:00 – 12:00

Sounds of Science

Science is music to our ears!  Learn how sound waves travel through the air around us, and how our ears allow us to hear everything from loud sirens to soft music.  Explore the incredible ways our vocal cords help us to speak, sing, and shout!  No need to be quiet as we explore the wonder of sound.

Biology Exploration

Let’s discover biology!  Learn about how different animals adapt to their environments. Dissect owl pellets and grasshoppers to investigate how these creatures survive, and use microscopes to explore the tiny organisms that live all around us.  Become a biologist for a week as we investigate how life works!

Week of June 26 – 30

Morning Session 9:00 – 12:00

Classical Castles

People have created some truly incredible structures.  You’ll discover how Stonehenge, the Pyramids, and the Parthenon were designed and built; and we’ll investigate why ancient people built them in our STARLAB Planetarium.  You’ll design and construct your own castle, then learn about the physics and ballistics of catapults before using them to deconstruct it!

Afternoon Session 1:00 – 4:00

City Builders

Do you know how cities are designed?  We’ll be discovering the incredible ways in which engineers lay out cities from below the ground to the top floors of the tallest buildings.   You’ll explore the ways that everything from sewers to power lines to skyscrapers are put together to form incredible cities.  Discover the beauty of cities in our STARLAB Planetarium, then design and build your own functioning cityscape as you become a civil engineer for a week!

Week of July 10 – 14

Morning Session 9:00 – 12:00

SciTech Film Lab

Lights!  Camera!  Action!  You’ll work with fellow students to discover the incredible world of film-making!  This camp will show you how to use a camera to capture amazing stories that you create.  We’ll write a script, develop storyboards, film, and edit your scenes.  Finally, you’ll make some popcorn, sit back, and watch the incredible tale that you’ve created!

Crazy Comics

Have you ever wanted to create your own comic books or cartoon strips?  Discover the incredible world of comic book artists and cartoonists as you invent your own comics from start to finish.  Create a story, invent characters, and develop your own unique art as you explore this exciting topic!

Week of July 17 – 21

Morning Session 9:00 – 12:00

Programming the World

Have you ever wondered how computers talk to each other?  Would you like to learn how viruses work, and why they can cause so much trouble?  Do you want to design your own website?  This could be your chance to learn everything you ever wanted to know about web design, programming, and computers as we discover the incredible world of computer programming.

Play the Stock Market

How does the stock market work?  What does it mean to own a part of a company?  What do people mean when they talk about “Bulls” and “Bears?”  We’ll explore all of these questions and more as we investigate stocks, bonds, and the other exciting elements that make (or break) our economy!  Throughout the week, campers will work through a simulated stock market in our STEAM computer lab.
